NMPolitics.net has fallen a little bit further behind my goal of raising $18,000 by April 30 each of the last few weeks. Please, if you can afford to do so, make a donation today.

Through the first two months of this year’s fundraising drive, I emphasized my push to expand NMPolitics.net by hiring reporting help. But there’s a more basic issue I’ve failed to stress thus far.

NMPolitics.net can’t survive without your donations.

Frankly, NMPolitics.net has fallen a little bit further behind my goal of raising $18,000 by April 30 each of the last few weeks. We’re not currently on track to reach that goal. I still hope we can get there, which is why I’m asking you to make a contribution today.

I still hope to hire help. I strongly believe in the importance of diversity in reporting, and right now, this site has none. I’m the only reporter.

But the reality is that I would have shut this site down two years ago if I hadn’t met the $10,000 goal I set during my first fundraising drive. Your donations are that important. Advertising alone can’t sustain this site.

So far this year, 116 people from across the state and nation, and the political spectrum, have come together to contribute $10,200 to NMPolitics.net. That’s an impressive and humbling display of support.

There are still a few weeks to improve on that total.

I’m not going to change the fundraising goal or the end date for this fundraising drive. I’m still aiming for $18,000 by the end of this month. I hope you’ll help us get there.

It’s doable. Nearly 200,000 unique visitors came to NMPolitics.net in 2011. If even a small fraction of you – say, 5,000 – donated $10 apiece, we’d blow this year’s $18,000 fundraising goal out of the water.
