Even a $10 donation helps keep NMPolitics.net going

The New York Times took a huge leap last week when it announced that it will start charging subscription fees for accessing more than 20 articles a month on the newspaper’s website and through digital apps.

With the announcement of plans that start at $15 a month, The Times is betting on a controversial funding model that could help the newspaper continue to be one of the best in the world.

With NMPolitics.net, I’m trying something different by asking those of you who can afford to give to voluntarily help fund NMPolitics.net. Please, make a donation today at nmpolitics.net/contribute.

NMPolitics.net celebrated its fifth anniversary on Sunday. I’m proud of the fact that, for five years, I have made a living running this news website without charging mandatory fees. Revenue comes primarily through advertising sales and donations.

But I need your help to keep this site going. As of this morning, NMPolitics.net has raised $7,827.37 toward this year’s goal of raising $12,000 by April 30. That puts the fundraising drive at 65 percent of its goal.

100 people have given since Feb. 1. Last week’s donors included Aletta Wilson of Mesilla Park, T. Spencer Wright of Santa Fe, Melissa Rosa of Doña Ana, Laura Bonar of Albuquerque, Arturo Uribe of Mesquite, Karyl Ann Armbruster of Los Alamos, and Patricia Garcia of Austin, Texas.

If every person who reads NMPolitics.net contributed even $10, this site would surpass this year’s fundraising goal. If those of you who can afford to give more made donations of $25, $50, $100 or another amount, that would put the site on even more solid footing.

You can make a one-time contribution in any amount or sign up to make automatic, monthly contributions of $10 or $20. Those who sign up to make monthly contributions or give a one-time donation of at least $120 will receive a monthly newsletter containing exclusive analysis and interesting tidbits about what’s happening in New Mexico and news about NMPolitics.net.

Please, visit nmpolitics.net/contribute today and make a donation. Thank you for your support!
