Secretary of State Mary Herrera’s office plans to hold four training sessions around the state in the coming days to teach candidates how to use its new campaign finance reporting system, but you’ll have to drive at least three hours to attend one if you’re from Doña Ana County.
The office is holding two trainings in Farmington on Friday and plans additional trainings in Albuquerque, Clovis and Santa Fe before the next finance reports are due May 10, according to a news release.
I asked SOS spokesman James Flores in an e-mail why there aren’t any trainings in Southern New Mexico.
“We have to secure a computer lab of some sort in the city where the training is going to be held. We thought we had NMSU available, but it didn’t work out,” he replied.
So will there be any trainings in cities other than the four that have been announced?
“Not at this time,” he replied.
Nothing near Las Cruces. Nothing near Silver City. Nothing near Carlsbad, Artesia or Roswell. If you live in Las Cruces, you can drive three hours to Albuquerque.
Flores said there’s another option for candidates who can’t attend one of the four training sessions.
“As always, candidates and/or their treasurers can train with our on-line tutorial, or contact our agency for any assistance they may need,” he wrote.
More information on the trainings is here.
