Gerald Ortiz y Pino told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/metro\/521375metro12-15-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> he might not introduce legislation in the 2007 session after all.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cTo be candid, it all hinges on whether the governor wants to open that can of worms or not,\u201d the Albuquerque Democrat told the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> isn\u2019t all that excited about it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe governor prefers to wait until the next round of redistricting in 2011,\u201d spokesman Gilbert Gallegos told the Journal. \u201cBut he\u2019s willing to listen to Sen. Ortiz y Pino\u2019s plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speaker of the House Ben Lujan said the same.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cUnless there\u2019s a real outcry,\u201d he told the Journal, \u201cI don\u2019t know we\u2019re really ready to rock the boat on that one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And rock the boat it would. <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2006\/12\/congressional-redistricting-proposal-is.html\" target=\"_blank\">I reported yesterday<\/a> that Republicans and Southern New Mexico Democrats would work together to defeat any such proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Senate Minority Leader Stuart Ingle of Portales confirmed his party\u2019s opposition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe need to wait until the normal redistricting period,\u201d he told the Journal. \u201cI don\u2019t see any reason to go back and go through this again.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the governor not that interested in congressional redistricting, Sen.
