Bill Richardson will have to answer some tough questions about his support of an early caucus in <st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state> when he travels to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> this weekend.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Earlier this year, national Democrats voted to move <st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state>\u2019s 2008 presidential caucus ahead of <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state>\u2019s storied primary, upsetting many in the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Granite<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>. The changes, which also included moving South Carolina\u2019s primary to just after New Hampshire\u2019s, were intended to diversify the changing party\u2019s presidential candidate selection process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The process still begins with the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> caucuses on Jan. 14, 2008.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> was perceived by many to favor moving <st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state>\u2019s event ahead of <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state>\u2019s \u2013 in part because <st1:city st=\"on\">Denver<\/st1:city> political consultant Mike Stratton, who many believe is helping prepare <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> for a White House run, pushed the change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s a hurdle <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> will have to work to overcome if he has a shot at fairing well in the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> will be in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> for the party\u2019s state committee meeting on Saturday. He\u2019ll also attend a House party in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Keene<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> hosted by a Democrat who was elected in November, and will meet with the state\u2019s governor. The trip is being paid for by <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s 2006 re-election campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThat\u2019s certainly a question that <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Hampshire<\/st1:state> activists are going to have of (<st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>), and he\u2019s going to have to answer them early on,\u201d New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Nick Clemons said of the <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> caucuses. \u201cHe\u2019s going to have a good opportunity to meet and greet with movers and shakers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">At the same time, Clemons said, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has made an effort to reach out to the state. <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s gubernatorial campaign donated tens of thousands of dollars to local candidates in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. Clemons said <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> also recruited three staffers to go to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and work for the state\u2019s Democratic Party during this year\u2019s election cycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201c<st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> activists are also aware of the commitment Governor Richardson made to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> in 2006,\u201d Clemons said. \u201cHe did not overlook us in favor of <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That was probably by design. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is a master of political maneuvering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s government office referred calls to his 2006 campaign manager, Amanda Cooper.
