He\u00a0has loaned and given his campaign a combined $31,742.59. And Miyagishima&#8217;s\u00a0insurance company has donated\u00a0$2,347.37, bringing his\u00a0self-financing up to $34,089.96, or 81\u00a0percent of the total amount his campaign has raised.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"module align-left half type-aside\">\n<h3>In case you missed it<\/h3>\n<p>This article is about the candidates&#8217; second finance reports. Take a look back at their first finance reports <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2015\/09\/self-financing-characterizes-las-cruces-election-thus-far\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The Miyagishima campaign&#8217;s spending in 2015 is thus far below what it spent to win re-election in 2011\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Ken-Miyagishima-05-08-12.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">$65,123.88<\/a>.\u00a0But his\u00a0spending far outpaces that of his opponents in this year&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/tag\/las-cruces-election\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nov. 3 election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of Miyagishima&#8217;s\u00a0challengers, outgoing City Councilor Miguel Silva, had raised $14,815.28 and spent $13,870.95 as of Oct. 19, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/silva2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">his report<\/a>. Silva&#8217;s\u00a0biggest donor in the last reporting period &#8212; state Rep. Terry McMillan, R-Las Cruces &#8212; gave $1,000.<\/p>\n<p>The third candidate in the mayor&#8217;s race, Gina Montoya-Ortega, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/ortega2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> raising $3,717.62\u00a0and spending $2,728.02\u00a0as of Oct. 19. She loaned her campaign $2,728.02, or 73 percent of the total raised.<\/p>\n<p>Though Miyagishima leads\u00a0in candidate fundraising and spending, the National Association of Realtors Fund is helping Silva keep pace. The group\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/realtors2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>\u00a0raising $14,383.91\u00a0from its members and spending all of it in support of Silva.<\/p>\n<p>No other political committees have thus far reported <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/departments\/city-clerks-office\/municipal-elections\" target=\"_blank\">to the City Clerk&#8217;s Office<\/a>\u00a0that they are raising and spending money on the election.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a rundown of the fundraising and spending candidates in other races reported as of Oct. 19:<\/p>\n<h3>District 1<\/h3>\n<p>In the race to replace Silva as the District 1 councilor, Eli Guzman led the way, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/guzman2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reporting<\/a> raising $13,038 through Oct. 19 and spending $10,046.55. His biggest donations in the most recent reporting period were $2,300 from Louis Biad&#8217;s Rezolex LTD and $2,000 from Oscar Andrade&#8217;s Pic Quik Stores.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Guzman&#8217;s\u00a0opponent, Kasandra Gandara, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/gandara2amended.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> raising $10,918.32 and spending $8,915.62. Her biggest donations in the most recent reporting period were a total of $895 in cash and in-kind contributions from Martha Martinez and $353.83 in cash from Elizabeth Bardwell.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a third candidate in the race, Steve Calderazzo. He tried to drop out on Oct. 5 but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2015\/10\/las-cruces-city-council-candidate-wants-off-the-ballot-but-its-too-late\/\" target=\"_blank\">it was too late<\/a>. His name remains on the ballot but he&#8217;s not campaigning, so he&#8217;s unlikely to win.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Calderazzo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/steve2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> raising $1,350\u00a0and spending $594.30\u00a0before he tried to drop out.<\/p>\n<h3>District 2<\/h3>\n<p>In the District 2 race, incumbent Gregory Z. Smith <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/smith2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> raising $7,903.40 and spending $6,241.12\u00a0as of Oct. 19. In the most recent reporting period his largest donation of $2,000 came from Pic Quik Stores.<\/p>\n<p>Smith&#8217;s challenger, Philip VanVeen, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/vanveen2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>\u00a0raising $4,754.41 and spending $3,620.18. His largest donation in the most recent reporting period &#8212; $400 &#8212; came from Sara Grill.<\/p>\n<h3>District 4<\/h3>\n<p>Richard Hall\u00a0led the way in fundraising in the open District 4 race. He <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/hall2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> raising $13,068.32\u00a0as of Oct. 19\u00a0and spending $2,294.68. In the most recent fundraising period his two largest donations of $2,300 apiece came from companies\u00a0tied to the Biad family &#8212; Biad Chile and Rezolex.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Eakman came in second. He <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/eakman2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> raising $12,016\u00a0and spending $10,321.60. His largest donations in the most recent fundraising period\u00a0were $200 apiece from Landa Manders and Kenneth Cole.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert Vasquez <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/vasquez2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> raising $2,567.14 and spending $1,739.53. His largest donation of $600 came from Jerry Settles.<\/p>\n<h3>Presiding municipal judge<\/h3>\n<p>In the municipal judge race, both candidates are self-financing. Kieran Ryan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/ryan2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> loaning his campaign $7,690.20 and spending the same amount.<\/p>\n<p>William M. Kinsella <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/~\/media\/lcpublicwebdev2\/site%20documents\/article%20documents\/city%20clerk\/kinsella2.ashx?la=en\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> loaning\u00a0his campaign $800 and spending $634.93.<\/p>\n<p><em>A prior version of this article incorrectly stated that Eakman received a $1,910 donation\u00a0from S.J. Camu\u00f1ez. That donation was $50.
