{"id":944,"date":"2006-12-01T17:03:00","date_gmt":"2006-12-01T23:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/12\/madrid-gets-warm-welcome-in-las-cruces\/"},"modified":"2006-12-01T17:03:00","modified_gmt":"2006-12-01T23:03:00","slug":"madrid-gets-warm-welcome-in-las-cruces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/12\/madrid-gets-warm-welcome-in-las-cruces\/","title":{"rendered":"Madrid gets warm welcome in Las Cruces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/x\/blogger2\/6506\/2852\/1600\/615246\/1201.Madrid%20office.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/x\/blogger2\/6506\/2852\/400\/895784\/1201.Madrid%20office.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Attorney General Patricia Madrid received a warm welcome in her hometown of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> Friday afternoon as she announced the opening of a new consumer division branch office here.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In attendance were many members of her family, including her mother, and also a myriad of public officials, both Democrat and Republican.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Former<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype> Rep. J. Paul Taylor said it was unfortunate that <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> lost her bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson, but said Madrid is young and has a bright political future ahead of her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rep. Joseph Cervantes also urged <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> to not drop out of public service. <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> has said she may run for U.S. Senate in 2008 or governor in 2010, which makes her a potential primary opponent of Cervantes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Taylor and Cervantes praised <st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state> for achieving her long-sought goal of opening an office in <st1:city st=\"on\">Las  Cruces<\/st1:city>, the only office of the attorney general outside <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city> and <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. Recurring funding from the legislature should keep it open when Gary King takes the helm on Jan. 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOne of her last official acts as attorney general is the very thing she started out to do,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\">Taylor<\/st1:city> said of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, who leaves office at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s a great thing that she comes back home to us at the end,\u201d Cervantes said. \u201cShe didn\u2019t forget us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> appeared tired after months of a nasty campaign that ended with her defeat.
