She is currently a member of the School Advisory Council and District Advisory Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She was employed in the aerospace engineering industry for 15 years and holds a master\u2019s in mathematics and doctorate in engineering from <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am a person that listens conscientiously to others and asks pertinent questions until I am satisfied that I have enough information to make informed decisions,\u201d Phillips said in a news release. \u201cI am also a person that is capable of bringing people together and focusing on what is right, instead of pointing out what is wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Phillips pledged to use those skills to \u201censure the community has a say in the future direction of the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Public School<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The district 4 and 5 seats are up for grabs on Feb. 6. District 4 board Member John Schwebke has announced that he won\u2019t run again, and Bonnie Votaw has announced that she will seek the seat, as will former board Member Larry Garcia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The board members elected in February will be among those who pick the next superintendent of the district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is important to move forward,\u201d Phillips said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Connie Phillips has announced that she will challenge incumbent Sharon Wooden for the District 5 seat on the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education.
