{"id":914,"date":"2006-11-22T10:29:00","date_gmt":"2006-11-22T16:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/11\/madrid-says-she-may-run-for-governor-or-senate\/"},"modified":"2006-11-22T10:29:00","modified_gmt":"2006-11-22T16:29:00","slug":"madrid-says-she-may-run-for-governor-or-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/11\/madrid-says-she-may-run-for-governor-or-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"Madrid says she may run for governor or Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger2\/6506\/2852\/1600\/Madrid%2C%20Patricia.1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger2\/6506\/2852\/200\/Madrid%2C%20Patricia.1.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> Attorney General Patricia Madrid confirmed what we all suspected \u2013 there\u2019s a good chance she\u2019ll run for U.S. Senate in 2008 or governor in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Madrid confirmed such suspicions while conceding the 1st Congressional District race Tuesday, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/514383nm11-22-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoy public service, and I will not today close the door on seeking elective office,\u201d the newspaper quoted her as saying. \u201cI don\u2019t ever want to run for attorney general again, because I don\u2019t believe in going backwards in life. \u2026 There are only two statewide races that I think would be higher \u2013 and of course that is governor and the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though that has long been the suspicion of what Madrid would do next if she lost the congressional race to Heather Wilson, it\u2019s noteworthy that she said it publicly.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of posturing going on right now. Gov. Bill Richardson and Sen. Pete Domenici are the giants in New Mexico politics.
