(Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/olgapedroza.org\/\">Olga Pedroza<\/a> has defeated Councilor\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/district3.shtm\">Dolores C. Archuleta<\/a> in the District 3 Las Cruces City Council race.<\/p>\n<p>With results from one polling place yet to be posted, Pedroza has 328 votes, or 65 percent, to Archuleta\u2019s 176 votes, or 35 percent. The results don\u2019t include votes cast at Conlee Elementary School, but that polling place won\u2019t change the outcome of the race.<\/p>\n<p>Those numbers come from unofficial results obtained by NMPolitics.net.<\/p>\n<p>Though it\u2019s safe to call the race, Pedroza said she\u2019s not yet declaring victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re still waiting on that one last polling place. \u2026 I\u2019m a cautious person,\u201d Pedroza said. \u201cWe\u2019re expecting it to be announced pretty soon, but I think it\u2019s not going to be big surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was no immediate word on why results haven\u2019t yet been posted at Conlee.<\/p>\n<p>Pedroza, a candidate who was backed by the city\u2019s progressive movement, said the inner-city District 3 is different than some of the East Mesa areas at the heart of the progressive movement, but said some of the issues still ring true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople in the district seem to be a little less politically involved but I think that, nevertheless, given the opportunity to vote for somebody who will make a difference, they will vote for them \u2013 and I think that\u2019s what happened here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Archuleta\u2019s campaign spokesman, Billy Samora, said Archuleta, the mayor pro tem, isn\u2019t yet conceding the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re still sitting here watching the monitors as they\u2019re still counting,\u201d he said by phone from city hall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Olga Pedroza has defeated Councilor Dolores C.
