Terry Marquardt, R-Alamogordo, has gained a couple of votes in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Otero<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>, but it won\u2019t help him win re-election, and he has already accepted defeat.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Otero and Do\u00f1a Ana counties are still sorting through and counting provisional ballots. As it stands now, Marquardt received 2,454 votes, or 48.3 percent. Democratic challenger Nate Cote has 2,632 votes, or 51.7 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Provisional ballots already counted in <st1:placename st=\"on\">Otero<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype> have given <st1:place st=\"on\">Cote<\/st1:place> an additional vote and Marquardt and additional three votes over the previously released totals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Cote%2C%20Nate.6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Cote%2C%20Nate.6.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alamogordonews.com\/news\/ci_4634474\" target=\"_blank\">Alamogordo Daily News<\/a>, <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Otero<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> is still counting some ballots, most of them provisionals. The total number, the clerk\u2019s office told me, is fewer than 100, and some of them have already been counted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There are 714 provisional ballots being sorted through in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a separate article, Marquardt told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alamogordonews.com\/news\/ci_4634472\" target=\"_blank\">Daily News<\/a> he has seen a loss as a possibility since redistricting in 2000 made his district 65 percent Democrat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s also 19 percent independent, which doesn\u2019t leave much room for Republicans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cEver since that redistricting\u2026 I\u2019ve known what the numbers are,\u201d he told the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a statement to the newspaper, Marquardt said the district is \u201cnot a district that favors Republican candidates\u201d and said this year\u2019s election \u201cfeatured a very strong headwind\u201d in Gov. Bill Richardson, Speaker of the House Ben Lujan and the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, all of which Marquardt said were \u201cworking in unison to oppose me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Marquardt told the newspaper he plans to rest for a few days, then begin making plans for \u201cfuture political endeavors.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Rep.
