Andy Nu\u00f1ez&#8217;s campaign finance reports because the numbers don&#8217;t add up, The Santa Fe New Mexican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/news\/local_news\/more-state-lawmakers-to-be-investigated-over-use-of-campaign\/article_3b6d59e9-39f4-58d9-9df9-11ad4a7e75c1.html\" target=\"_blank\">is reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_85321\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 336px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-85321\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Nunez-Andy-336x222.jpg\" alt=\"Andy Nu\u00f1ez\" width=\"336\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Courtesy photo<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Andy Nu\u00f1ez<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Nu\u00f1ez&#8217;s 2014 campaign inherited $11,993 of debt from his 2012 campaign, according to the newspaper &#8212; all of it money Nu\u00f1ez loaned his own campaign. Then, between April 2014 and April 2015, he reported loaning himself another $4,332 and repaying himself $14,600.<\/p>\n<p>But the total Nu\u00f1ez, R-Hatch, listed in unpaid campaign debt on his last report only changed by $67 from the year before, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfis.state.nm.us\/media\/CandidateReportH.aspx?es=17&amp;ot=2&amp;o=27&amp;c=105&amp;p=0&amp;d=&amp;ct=0&amp;fn=andy&amp;ln=nunez\" target=\"_blank\">his reports show<\/a>. Based on the numbers he reported for loans and loan repayments, it should have been thousands of dollars less.<\/p>\n<p>Nu\u00f1ez, The New Mexican reported, couldn&#8217;t explain the discrepancies. &#8220;I&#8217;m going to have to look at\u00a0it,&#8221; the newspaper quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Nu\u00f1ez is the latest New Mexico elected official to have his finance reports come under scrutiny. Most notably, Secretary of State Dianna Duran, a Republican whose office is responsible for the campaign reporting system,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2015\/09\/duran-appears-in-court-pleads-not-guilty\/\" target=\"_blank\">pleaded not guilty<\/a> on Tuesday to charges related to abusing that system.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2015\/09\/amount-rep-maestas-says-he-failed-to-report-climbs-to-more-than-11k\/\" target=\"_blank\">Antonio &#8220;Moe&#8221; Maestas<\/a> of Albuquerque and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2015\/09\/another-officials-campaign-finance-reports-are-under-scrutiny\/\" target=\"_blank\">James Roger Madalena<\/a> of Jemez Pueblo are also facing questions about their reports.<\/p>\n<p>From The New Mexican:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Because of the allegations of wrongdoing involving campaign money, the director of Common Cause New Mexico is calling on the Secretary of State\u2019s Office to join with the Attorney General\u2019s Office to review the reports of all elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know this is a huge task, but with so many questions swirling around in the media, having a full audit across the board can help clear up the questions and the mistrust so many of our citizens are feeling right now,\u201d Viki Harrison said in a letter<span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_1440030953\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Wednesday<\/span><\/span> night to officials in both offices.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison said in an interview that, based on phone calls she\u2019s received, she expects several more lawmakers to face questions about their use of campaign money.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press reported <span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_1440030954\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Wednesday<\/span><\/span> that the Secretary of State\u2019s Office is planning an extra audit of the next batch of reports, which are due <span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_1440030955\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Oct. 13<\/span><\/span>. State law requires the office to audit a random selection of 10 percent of the reports filed after each election cycle. Though an audit isn\u2019t required at this time, the wire service quoted a spokesman for the office saying they plan to review those reports anyway.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Secretary of State&#8217;s Office is investigating State Rep.
