Heather Wilson, R-N.M., is still trailing Democratic challenger Patricia Madrid.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The newest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zogby.com\/news\/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1191\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters\/Zogby poll<\/a>, released today, has <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> ahead 53 to 44 percent. The poll, a live survey of at least 500 likely voters, was conducted Oct. 24-29, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The last Albuquerque Journal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/504930nm10-22-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">poll<\/a>, conducted by pollster Brian Sanderoff\u2019s group between Oct. 17 and 19, had <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> ahead 45-42 percent, with nine percent undecided. That poll surveyed 503 registered voters and had a margin of error of 4.4 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Wilson%2C%20Heather.5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Wilson%2C%20Heather.5.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The last Reuters\/Zogby <a href=\"http:\/\/today.reuters.com\/news\/articlenews.aspx?type=politicsNews&#038;storyid=2006-10-04T110308Z_01_N03231862_RTRUKOC_0_US-POLL-HOUSE.xml&amp;src=rss&amp;rpc=22\" target=\"_blank\">poll<\/a>, conducted between Sept. 25 and Oct. 2, had <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> ahead 50-40 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Journal polls are considered by most experts in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> to be slightly more accurate than others. But the new Reuters\/Zogby poll is the first to include any questioning of likely voters since the Oct. 24 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/elex\/505742nm10-25-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">televised debate<\/a> between the two candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The last Journal poll on the race will be released this weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> continue to fight hard, and their parties\u2019 big guns are helping out. Former President Bill Clinton will be in <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> Thursday to rally voters for <st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state>, and first lady Laura Bush will be in <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> Friday to rally voters for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The newest poll was part of a larger Reuters\/Zogby survey that showed Democrats ahead in 12 of 15 key Republican-held seats in the U.S. House. The last Reuters\/Zogby poll had Democrats ahead in 11 of those 15 races.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Since then, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/elections.us.reuters.com\/top\/news\/usnN31248778.html\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>, Democrats improved their standing in nine of those districts, while Republicans gained ground in six.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Unless there\u2019s a looming November surprise, Republicans should be worried. Democrats need 15 seats to take control of the House.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cDemocrats are getting very close to that magic number of 15,\u201d pollster John Zogby told Reuters. \u201cRepublicans are really on the ropes.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new poll confirms that U.S. Rep.
