\"\"<\/a>The New York Times<\/a> had an interesting article this weekend about the fact that Vice President Dick Cheney was spotted washing his hands after shaking a lot of hands.<\/p>\n

The article pointed out that most politicians these days carry bottles of Purell \u2013 an alcohol-based hand sanitizer \u2013 to use after shaking a lot of hands.<\/p>\n

Not Gov. Bill Richardson.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s condescending to voters,\u201d he told the Times. \u201c\u2026 The great part about politics is that you\u2019re touching humanity. You\u2019re going to collect bacteria just by existing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richardson holds the Guinness world record for shaking the most hands over an eight-hour period, according to the Times \u2013 13,392 at the 2002 New Mexico State Fair.<\/p>\n

Greg Pollowitz<\/a> of the National Review had a funny take on this. He pointed to a 2004 letter<\/a> Richardson sent to the Bush administration urging it to do more to stop the spread of the flu.<\/p>\n

But, Pollowitz pointed out, the Centers for Disease Control says one of the most important factors in stopping the spread of the flu is \u2013 you guessed it \u2013 hand washing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess we can say that Bill Richardson was for stopping the spread of the flu right before he was against it,\u201d Pollowitz wrote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
