{"id":7423,"date":"2009-10-06T21:57:46","date_gmt":"2009-10-07T03:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=7423"},"modified":"2009-10-07T00:10:44","modified_gmt":"2009-10-07T06:10:44","slug":"berry-holding-on-to-lead-still-above-40-percent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/10\/berry-holding-on-to-lead-still-above-40-percent\/","title":{"rendered":"Berry holding on to lead, still above 40 percent"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_6892\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6892\" title=\"Berry, Richard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Berry-Richard.jpg\" alt=\"Richard Berry\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Richard Berry<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It\u2019s still too close to call in the Albuquerque mayoral race, but things are looking pretty good for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berryformayor.com\/\">Richard Berry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With 105 of 186 precincts reporting, Berry has 19,366 votes, or 41 percent &#8212; enough to avoid a runoff if he can hold on to it.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, incumbent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martychavez.com\/\">Martin Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> has 16, 778 votes, or 35.52 percent. <a href=\"http:\/\/richardromeroformayor.com\/\">Richard Romero<\/a> is out of the race at this point, with 10,979 votes, or 23.25 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The percentages for the three candidates have remained remarkably consistent throughout the evening as early, absentee and regular votes have been counted, so there\u2019s a good chance Berry will finish with more than 40 percent of the vote and be Albuquerque\u2019s next mayor.<\/p>\n<p>But if Berry can\u2019t finish with more than 40 percent tonight, Ch\u00e1vez probably has the advantage in a runoff. Berry is a Republican, and Ch\u00e1vez and Romero are Democrats.
