{"id":7381,"date":"2009-10-06T12:25:40","date_gmt":"2009-10-06T18:25:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=7381"},"modified":"2009-10-06T12:25:40","modified_gmt":"2009-10-06T18:25:40","slug":"open-government-foundation-restarts-toll-free-hotline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/10\/open-government-foundation-restarts-toll-free-hotline\/","title":{"rendered":"Open government foundation restarts toll-free hotline"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_5338\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5338\" title=\"Welsh, Sarah\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/Welsh-Sarah.jpg\" alt=\"Sarah Welsh\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sarah Welsh<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmfog.org\/\">New Mexico Foundation for Open Government<\/a> has restarted its toll-free hotline with a promise to be both a \u201chelping hand\u201d and a \u201chammer\u201d in its quest to shine light on government.<\/p>\n<p>The hotline &#8212; 888.843.9121 \u2013 is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Messages left after hours will be returned the following day, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The hotline aims to help people who have been denied access to public records or meetings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrdinary citizens who try to access public information often run up against a wall of legal and administrative jargon,\u201d FOG Executive Director Sarah Welsh said. \u201cSince they can\u2019t afford to hire a lawyer, they might be inclined to just give up. But we can help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes it\u2019s just a matter of translating the jargon and resolving the issue,\u201d she said. \u201cSometimes it involves cutting through red tape and getting to the person in charge.
