Though he filed the paperwork to run for a seat on the Las Cruces City Council, Christopher Micklevitz won\u2019t be on the ballot on Nov. 3.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s because some of the signatures Micklevitz submitted in support of his candidacy were deemed invalid — meaning they didn\u2019t come from registered voters living in his district — and he didn\u2019t have the required 25 to appear on the ballot, he said today in an interview.<\/p>\n
That leaves incumbent Councilor Gil Jones<\/a> and challenger Gill M. Sorg in the District 5 race.<\/p>\n Sorg said in an interview that he \u201chas the experience\u201d to help out the progressive majority on the council. He added that he has \u201ca positive outlook on what they\u2019re doing, and I\u2019d like to continue helping them.\u201d<\/p>\n Jones, who has been pounding the pavement in the neighborhoods in District 5, is asking his constituents about the needs of the district and issues such as implementing a quality of life tax.<\/p>\n There are now seven candidates running for three city council seats and a municipal judgeship in the Las Cruces municipal election.<\/p>\n In the District 3 city council race, Mayor Pro-Tem Dolores C. Archuleta<\/a> is being challenged by Olga Pedroza<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the District 6 race, Councilor Sharon K. Thomas<\/a> will be challenged by James W. Harbison.<\/p>\n Municipal Judge James T. Locatelli will run unopposed.<\/p>\n
