{"id":7053,"date":"2009-09-29T13:29:15","date_gmt":"2009-09-29T19:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=7053"},"modified":"2009-09-29T13:30:05","modified_gmt":"2009-09-29T19:30:05","slug":"what-does-pnm%e2%80%99s-leaving-chamber-mean-for-cd2-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/09\/what-does-pnm%e2%80%99s-leaving-chamber-mean-for-cd2-race\/","title":{"rendered":"What does PNM\u2019s leaving chamber mean for CD2 race?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_5685\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5685\" title=\"Teague, Harry\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Teague-Harry1.jpg\" alt=\"Teague, Harry\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Teague, Harry<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>And what about the position of small refiners who oppose cap-and-trade legislation?<\/h4>\n<p>On Friday, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnm.com\/\">Public Service Co. of New Mexico<\/a> announced that a difference over climate change issues is leading it to let its membership in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/default\">U.S. Chamber of Commerce<\/a> lapse at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt PNM Resources, we see climate change as the most pressing environmental and economic issue of our time,\u201d PNM spokesman Don Brown said in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/abqnews\/john-fleck-nm-science-mainmenu-31\/15939-pnm-leaving-us-chamber-of-commerce-over-climate-issue.html\">a statement<\/a>. \u201cGiven that view, and a natural limit on both company time and resources, we have decided that we can be most productive by working with organizations that share our view on the need for thoughtful, reasonable climate change legislation and want to push that agenda forward in Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7054\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7054\" title=\"Pearce, Steve\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Pearce-Steve.jpg\" alt=\"Steve Pearce\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steve Pearce<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I\u2019ve been thinking about this in the context of <a href=\"..\/2009\/09\/cap-and-trade-bill-has-small-refiners-%E2%80%98deeply-concerned%E2%80%99\/\">last week\u2019s article<\/a> I wrote about small refiners who helped controversial cap-and-trade legislation narrowly pass the House in June not currently supporting the bill in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP was quick to hammer U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/teague.house.gov\/\">Harry Teague<\/a>, D-N.M., about the position of the small refiners, since he was instrumental in a deal with them that helped the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Clean_Energy_and_Security_Act\">American Clean Energy and Security Act<\/a> pass the House. Teague has been touting concessions he got added to the bill to help small refiners, and their position against the legislation might hurt him in next year\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p>So now I\u2019m wondering: How will both of these events affect the 2nd Congressional District race between Teague and former U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steve_Pearce\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, R-N.M.? Will the position of the small refiners help Pearce?
