Bill Richardson was in <st1:state st=\"on\">Florida<\/st1:state> on Monday campaigning for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis (instead of educating <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> voters by debating his own opponent here), and talking with the national media about <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">North Korea<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s apparent nuclear weapons test.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Albuquerque Journal\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/abqnews\/\" target=\"_blank\">ABQNews Seeker<\/a> blog has the most humorous account, detailing <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s interview Monday with Wolf Blitzer on CNN. <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> apparently called Blitzer \u201cChris\u201d twice during the interview, obviously referring to MSNBC\u2019s Chris Matthews, who <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> also spoke with Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That left Blitzer to scratch his head and ask, \u201cI wonder who he\u2019s talking about,\u201d according to ABQNews Seeker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard to keep track when you\u2019re in <st1:city st=\"on\">West  Palm Beach<\/st1:city> running hard for re-election as governor of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d notes the blog\u2019s Bruce Daniels in his posting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> appeared on the Today show this morning, telling Matt Lauer that the Bush Administration is \u201cfinally headed in the right direction\u201d by seeking U.N. sanctions of <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:country-region st=\"on\">North Korea<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>, according to Daniels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> said the <st1:country-region st=\"on\">United States<\/st1:country-region> must get <st1:country-region st=\"on\">China<\/st1:country-region> to pressure the North, then set up its own face-to-face meeting with <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">North   Korea<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a separate article, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/500361nm10-10-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> he would be willing to negotiate with <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">North Korea<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, but said the Bush Administration should send its own representative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., who is in the fight of her life to keep her job, called for direct talks and said <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> could be part of the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBill Richardson has said we should open another channel of communication \u2013 well, send him as part of the delegation,\u201d the Journal quoted <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> as saying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI would do it, but only if the administration asks,\u201d Richardson told the Journal, but he suggested that the administration should send Christopher Hill, a State Department official with expertise on North Korea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The White House has rejected <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s suggestion of direct talks with <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">North   Korea<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.
