{"id":6663,"date":"2009-09-22T21:38:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-23T03:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=6663"},"modified":"2009-09-22T21:41:01","modified_gmt":"2009-09-23T03:41:01","slug":"mccamley-is-%e2%80%98heavily-considering%e2%80%99-running-for-prc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/09\/mccamley-is-%e2%80%98heavily-considering%e2%80%99-running-for-prc\/","title":{"rendered":"McCamley \u2018heavily considering\u2019 running for PRC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6664\" title=\"McCamley, Bill\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/McCamley-Bill.JPG\" alt=\"McCamley, Bill\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Former Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/billmccamley.com\/\">Bill McCamley<\/a> said tonight that he\u2019s \u201cheavily considering\u201d running for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmprc.state.nm.us\/\">Public Regulation Commission<\/a> District 5 seat next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very important job, and there are some issues that are important to me that the PRC deals with,\u201d McCamley said.<\/p>\n<p>Among those issues the Democrat cited are \u201cjob creation through alternative energy,\u201d ethics in government, and &#8212; depending on what happens at the federal level &#8212; health insurance reform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are things that I have a good background in,\u201d McCamley said. \u201cThe PRC provides me with an opportunity to work on them, and that interests me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCamley said he plans to make a decision on whether to run by the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The PRC seat is currently held by Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmprc.state.nm.us\/commissioner5.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Sandy Jones<\/a> &#8212; the PRC\u2019s chairman &#8212; but Jones confirmed tonight that he will <a href=\"..\/2009\/09\/jones-will-run-for-land-commissioner-not-re-election\/\">run for state land commissioner<\/a> next year instead of seeking re-election. McCamley is the first to publicly announce his interest in replacing Jones.<\/p>\n<p>McCamley served one term on the county commission, <a href=\"..\/2008\/12\/mccamley-evans-say-farewell-to-county-commission\/\">leaving office in December<\/a>. He opted against seeking re-election in 2008 and instead ran for Congress, but he lost in last year\u2019s Democratic primary <a href=\"..\/2008\/06\/teague-wins-democratic-2nd-district-primary\/\">to Harry Teague<\/a>, who went on to win the seat.<\/p>\n<p>McCamley, who lives in Las Cruces, graduated from Mayfield High School and New Mexico State University before heading to Harvard to earn a master\u2019s degree. During his tenure on the county commission, McCamley also worked for two years as director of a nonprofit that works on infrastructure and other issues in rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>McCamley currently works for New Mexico State University as a development officer in the College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><em>As I\u2019ve disclosed in the past, I\u2019m friends with McCamley.
