Bill Richardson who is ducking debates.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As reported in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/496442nm09-27-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> today, U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., has accused Democratic challenger Patricia Madrid of avoiding televised debates \u2013 which <st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state> has done \u2013 but <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> has also declined two non-televised debates with <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Though U.S. Rep. Steve P<a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Pearce%2C%20Steve.7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Pearce%2C%20Steve.7.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>earce, R-N.M., participated in one, mid-day debate with Democratic challenger Al Kissling, he has declined any other debates, including an upcoming offer from an <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> television station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., has agreed to one upcoming televised debate and not yet responded to a challenge from Republican Allen McCulloch for several more. Bingaman has never been one to shy away from debates. Kudos to him for agreeing to the televised debate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M., is also expected to agree to a televised debate with Republican challenger Ron Dolin, the Journal reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Madrid%2C%20Patricia.9.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Madrid%2C%20Patricia.9.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>That leaves <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>,  <st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, Wilson and Pearce as the duckers of televised debates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">If there isn\u2019t a gubernatorial debate this cycle, it would be the first time in recent history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019re having debates about debates, rather than issues,\u201d Allan Lerner of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s Congregation Albert synagogue told the Journal. His center was to b<a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Wilson%2C%20Heather.2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Wilson%2C%20Heather.2.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>e the site of an Oct. 15 debate between Richardson and Dendahl that now appears to be dead because <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> doesn\u2019t want it televised and Dendahl insists that it be broadcast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe voters deserve the chance to see the governor and his opponent in a public debate,\u201d Lerner told the Journal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> has declined two other televised debates with Dendahl. <st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state> has declined three televised debates, but recently took part in an untelevised debate with <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> that was recorded by blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marioburgos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mario Burgos<\/a>, who posted the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marioburgos.com\/2006\/09\/complete-wilson-madrid-debate-uncut.html\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> on his Web site. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Madrid<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>\u2019s campaign later posted video of the debate on its site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A recorded version of that debate was broadcast on the radio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That was the case with the Pearce\/Kissling debate on Aug. 22. Pearce insisted it be held during the day on a weekday, ensuring no live television coverage. It was recorded by KRWG-TV and radio. The PBS affiliate\u2019s radio station later broadcast audio of the debate, but the television station has not broadcast video of the debate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century, it is unreasonable for candidates to insist that debates not be televised or, as Pearce did, only agree to a debate that is less likely to be televised because of the time it\u2019s held.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ve requested that KRWG share the video of the Pearce\/Kissling debate with me so I can publish it on this site, but have not received an answer.
