Shirley Baca, a former member of the N.M. Public Regulation Commission<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Lindsey Bachman, the county&#8217;s current chief deputy clerk<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Dolores Connor, a former Las Cruces city councilor<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Cheryl De Young, a member of the clerk&#8217;s Election Advisory Council<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Ronald James Fitzherbert, a former congressional and school board candidate<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Juan Antonio Fuentes, a former Truth or Consequences city manager<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Bealquin &#8220;Bill&#8221; Gomez, a state representative who leaves that job at the end of the year<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Kelly O\u2019Connell, a Las Cruces attorney and former radio program host<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Eugenia &#8220;Gina&#8221; Montoya Ortega, a former Las Cruces mayoral candidate<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Paul Ponce, the county&#8217;s chief deputy assessor<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Jacob Portillo, a senior title examiner for the State of New Mexico who ran for county clerk in 2000<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Maria E. Rodriguez, a paralegal and former magistrate judge who ran for county clerk in 2016<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Merrie Lee Soules, a former congressional and PRC candidate<\/p>\n<p>You can view the letters and r\u00e9sum\u00e9s submitted by each candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/9.5.18.ClerkApplicants.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by clicking here<\/a>. They were released Wednesday evening by the county, shortly after the 5 p.m. deadline to submit applications.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members of the Do\u00f1a Ana County Board of Commissioners will meet at\u00a09 a.m.\u00a0on Sept. 11 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Dona+Ana+County+Government+Center\/@32.3057319,-106.8178994,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x86de3de2e89ff8cf:0xf50e197fcbcaeea1!8m2!3d32.3057274!4d-106.8157054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Do\u00f1a Ana County Government Center<\/a> to either vote to appoint someone to be the next clerk or, if they&#8217;re not ready to do that, finalize a process for making a selection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applicants who attend the meeting will be allowed to address the commission. Public input will also be allowed. You can watch the meeting online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The commission is appointing a new clerk because of last week&#8217;s decision by Scott Krahling to <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2018\/08\/with-election-approaching-dona-ana-county-clerk-abruptly-resigns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submit his resignation<\/a>, which takes effect Friday. Krahling gave no reason for resigning, but <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2018\/08\/with-election-approaching-dona-ana-county-clerk-abruptly-resigns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an NMPolitics.net investigation<\/a> revealed that\u00a0the county attorney\u2019s office has been investigating a complaint involving Krahling and former Chief Deputy County Clerk Rose Ann Vasquez for months. The details of that complaint aren&#8217;t known publicly.<\/p>\n<p>The commission is moving quickly to replace Krahling in part to ensure continuity in advance of the upcoming general election.\u00a0The last day to register to vote in the election is Oct. 9. Early and absentee voting begin that day as well.
