Bill Richardson was ranked one of the 10 most popular governors in the nation by <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/no-surprise-richardson-one-of-10-most.html\" target=\"_blank\">Survey USA<\/a>. He tied for ninth with Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Since then, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> went to Africa and rescued Paul Salopek, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> who had been imprisoned by the Sudanese government and charged with espionage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It isn\u2019t often that a governor gets a change to personally rescue one of his constituents, or that a state has a governor capable of pulling off such a feat, and the citizens of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> know it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The newest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surveyusa.com\/50State2006\/50StateGovernor060921State.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Survey USA poll<\/a>, released today, ranks Richardson as the seventh most popular governor in the nation, with a 69-percent approval rating among his constituents. That\u2019s a 4-percent jump over last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The survey was conducted Sept. 14-17, less than a week after Salopek\u2019s release. It polled 600 adults in all 50 states and has a margin of error of 4 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Even if Republican John Dendahl were running a more aggressive campaign in his bid to unseat <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, he would have a hard time gaining ground after an event like Salopek\u2019s release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Update, 9 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The poll comes out a day after the latest Rasmussen Report shows <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> leading Dendahl 61 to 26 percent, giving <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> his 60-percent goal. This one surveyed 500 likely voters in <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Mexico<\/st1:state> on Sept. 7 \u2013 the day <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> traveled to <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Sudan<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In August, Gov.
