That isn&#8217;t stopping her primary opponents, Joseph Cervantes and Jeff Apodaca, from trying.<\/p>\n<p>Apodaca called for Lujan Grisham to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/1179188\/rivals-pressure-lujan-grisham.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/nmpolitics.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D67ee0a8b97d197799202beb0b%26id%3D7f8d65f1b4%26e%3Dec5d703acb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527973326756000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEWFnXEGe-UpPihbt4dAff7xtC1-w\">drop out of the race<\/a>\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_1609403458\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Thursday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2018\/05\/30\/lujan-grisham-new-mexico-insurance-615197\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/nmpolitics.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D67ee0a8b97d197799202beb0b%26id%3D2afbe5fe33%26e%3Dec5d703acb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527973326756000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFq2yHY6UT-jyeS1rxEkMomU6w2cQ\">a Politico article<\/a>\u00a0dug into her profiting from a firm that manages New Mexico&#8217;s high-risk insurance pool &#8212; a program critics say Obamacare was intended to replace but has continued in the Land of Enchantment. The article questions &#8220;whether her political clout played a role in keeping it going and thereby prevented customers from obtaining less expensive coverage&#8221; through the Affordable Care Act. Lujan Grisham&#8217;s response? &#8220;Absolutely not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_383420\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 336px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-383420\" src=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Haussamen-Heath-336x252.jpg\" alt=\"Heath Haussamen\" width=\"336\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Haussamen-Heath-336x252.jpg 336w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Haussamen-Heath-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Haussamen-Heath-771x578.jpg 771w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Haussamen-Heath-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Haussamen-Heath.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Heath Haussamen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But Apodaca was quoted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/1179188\/rivals-pressure-lujan-grisham.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/nmpolitics.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D67ee0a8b97d197799202beb0b%26id%3Dbc6d32713e%26e%3Dec5d703acb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527973326756000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEOEfnhfCFQlTBXLPh8wl87VkxiVg\">by the Albuquerque Journal<\/a>\u00a0as saying New Mexicans are &#8220;being robbed,&#8221; and Cervantes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenJoeCervantes\/status\/1001976928646193153\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/nmpolitics.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D67ee0a8b97d197799202beb0b%26id%3D494865fbc3%26e%3Dec5d703acb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527973326756000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG4B794JTqSndi2ihaxWmJYEiE-Jg\">tweeted<\/a>\u00a0that the situation would help Republican Steve Pearce in the general election if Democrats nominate Lujan Grisham for governor.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve written lots of articles over the years about New Mexico politicians &#8212; including our last two governors &#8212; whose actions sparked charges of corruption. Viki Harrison of Common Cause New Mexico had the right analysis in the Politico article. New Mexico&#8217;s system of policing government ethics is weak and relies heavily on those in power holding their peers accountable. That doesn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you police yourselves, there&#8217;s always going to be questions about transparency and cronyism,&#8221; Politico quoted Harrison as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Lujan Grisham was already being hammered for, like Pearce, refusing to release her tax returns\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/elections\/lujan-grisham-pearce-won-t-share-tax-returns\/article_c1e50e08-ce26-5747-816e-f64bd5fa54a7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/nmpolitics.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D67ee0a8b97d197799202beb0b%26id%3Db16e97b055%26e%3Dec5d703acb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527973326756000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF1PKTh4CsZ2h-f6gbybhON6jGlBQ\">to The Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a>, while Apodaca and Cervantes did release theirs (though Cervantes did it with some redactions). Lujan Grisham, some pointed out, called for Trump to release his tax returns\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2017\/11\/17\/1716692\/-NM-Gov-Lujan-Grisham-D-Calls-For-Releasing-Trump-s-Tax-Returns-Before-Senate-Vote-On-Tax-Plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/nmpolitics.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D67ee0a8b97d197799202beb0b%26id%3D2e886c3d18%26e%3Dec5d703acb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527973326756000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFOpLxuSKk9_BcOrvxmQlWLbpNZHw\">in 2017<\/a>, and she&#8217;s been accused of hypocrisy this week. Nearing the end of a rough week in the home stretch of the primary election, Lujan Grisham\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newmexicansformichelle.com\/news\/congresswoman-lujan-grisham-releases-tax-returns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/nmpolitics.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D67ee0a8b97d197799202beb0b%26id%3D1d4310ebe1%26e%3Dec5d703acb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527973326756000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF8hZm6rntSlJFkIouaiQA-kNtN0g\">posted five years of tax returns online<\/a>\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_1609403459\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Thursday<\/span><\/span>, saying she was &#8220;committed to providing transparency for New Mexico voters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Transparency that&#8217;s a little late is better than none at all, right?
