{"id":5683,"date":"2009-09-01T10:42:30","date_gmt":"2009-09-01T16:42:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=5683"},"modified":"2009-09-01T10:42:30","modified_gmt":"2009-09-01T16:42:30","slug":"solar-plant-coming-to-sierra-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/09\/solar-plant-coming-to-sierra-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar plant coming to Sierra County"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_5685\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5685 \" title=\"Teague, Harry\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Teague-Harry1.jpg\" alt=\"Teague, Harry\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Harry Teague<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A large solar producer and another energy company plan to build a 160-acre solar plant in Sierra County near Elephant Butte.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bp.com\/genericcountryjump.do?categoryId=9070&amp;contentId=7038143\">BP Solar<\/a> and EnergyNovo plan to work together to build the 22-megawatt plant, they announced Monday in a news release and at the <a href=\"http:\/\/energize.nmsu.edu\/\">Re-Energize America Conference<\/a> being held at New Mexico State University.<\/p>\n<p>In the release, Sam Senn of EnergyNovo thanked U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/teague.house.gov\/\">Harry Teague<\/a>, D-N.M. and chair of the NMSU conference, \u201cfor his strong leadership in attracting the world\u2019s largest energy company to locate in Southern New Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On a conference call with reporters, the companies said they hope <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceportamerica.com\/\">Spaceport America<\/a> will be among the clients of the solar plant, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/las_cruces-news\/ci_13243167\">Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a>. No such agreement has been announced.<\/p>\n<p>Teague spoke highly of the planned solar plant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s clean power, it doesn\u2019t use water, and it will create good jobs for New Mexico,\u201d the Sun-News quoted Teague as saying. \u201cWe\u2019re bringing companies from outside New Mexico to partner with local companies to take advantage of our resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BP Solar has plants around the world, but this will be its first in New Mexico.
