{"id":56053,"date":"2015-06-01T09:44:34","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T15:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=56053"},"modified":"2015-06-16T10:15:31","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T16:15:31","slug":"officials-saying-little-about-incident-at-county-clerks-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2015\/06\/officials-saying-little-about-incident-at-county-clerks-office\/","title":{"rendered":"UPDATED: Clerk&#8217;s office arrests part of check-fraud probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The arrests of three employees of the Do\u00f1a Ana County Clerk&#8217;s Office early Monday were tied to a check-cashing scheme, the Las Cruces Sun-News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/las_cruces-news\/ci_28227960\/county-clerks-employees-detained-early-monday\" target=\"_blank\">is reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From the newspaper:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It comes on the heels of an earlier round of arrests \u2014 which happened Friday \u2014 related to the same alleged scheme, which entailed fraudulently notarizing documents that would&#8217;ve allowed for the cashing of nearly $12,000 in federal tax refund checks that had been obtained using stolen identities, according to court documents obtained by the Sun-News.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On Friday, Maria L. Ceniceros, 42, of Anthony, N.M., a county clerk&#8217;s office document technician, was arrested and charged with forgery, identity theft and fraud, according to court documents. Her daughter, Denise Ceniceros, 24, and husband, Francisco Ceniceros, 47, also are facing charges of conspiracy to commit fraud, according to records.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Maria Ceniceros, who has worked for the county since February 2013, is believed by authorities to have been the local ringleader for the alleged scam, according to county and court records.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_38493\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 270px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38493\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Ellins-Lynn1.jpg\" alt=\"Do\u00f1a Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins\" width=\"270\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Ellins-Lynn1.jpg 270w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Ellins-Lynn1-32x32.jpg 32w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Do\u00f1a Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The names of the Clerk&#8217;s Office employees who were arrested haven&#8217;t been released.
