Folks, I\u2019m sorry to have to report that NMPolitics.net\u2019s funding hasn\u2019t been where it needs to be thus far in 2018. Coming off a successful effort to raise enough money in 2017 to keep the news organization going, I was feeling really optimistic<\/span><\/a> about our future on Jan. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since then, it\u2019s been a real challenge to raise money<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

I believe in NMPolitics.net. I believe journalism that digs deep<\/span><\/a> and examines serious issues<\/span><\/a> is critical to improving our state. I believe the respectful discourse we require in commentaries and on social media helps cut through the partisan divides to get us closer to solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The importance of our work continues to be recognized<\/span><\/a>. In the past week, NMPolitics.net\u2019s investigative journalism has won state<\/span><\/a> and national<\/span><\/a> awards. We also won awards for commentary writing, news and feature reporting, and photography.<\/span><\/p>\n

But without adequate funding, we can\u2019t keep doing this work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our funding model is unique. We aren\u2019t a nonprofit that can exist primarily on grant funding. We can\u2019t rely on large ads like newspapers.<\/span><\/p>\n

NMPolitics.net depends primarily on donations from people like you<\/span><\/a>. We believe people should have access to news and information about their government regardless of their ability to pay, so we don\u2019t charge a required subscription fee. Instead, we ask that you give what you can afford.<\/span><\/p>\n
