{"id":5441,"date":"2009-08-25T14:19:59","date_gmt":"2009-08-25T20:19:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=5441"},"modified":"2009-08-25T14:19:59","modified_gmt":"2009-08-25T20:19:59","slug":"top-bingaman-aide-leaving-for-usda-development-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/08\/top-bingaman-aide-leaving-for-usda-development-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Bingaman aide leaving for USDA development job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The longtime state director for U.S. Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/bingaman.senate.gov\/\">Jeff Bingaman<\/a> will leave that job to become the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usda.gov\/wps\/portal\/usdahome\">U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s<\/a> director for rural development in New Mexico, the Obama administration announced today in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>Terry Brunner leaves Bingaman\u2019s office after leading the senator\u2019s state organization for seven years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTerry Brunner will be an important advocate on behalf of rural communities throughout the state and help administer the valuable programs and services provided by the USDA that can enhance their economic success,\u201d Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Brunner has been state director for Bingaman since 2002, managing five district offices and supervising 19 staff members.\u00a0 The USDA\u2019s office of rural development manages more than 40 housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs.<\/p>\n<p>Bingaman recommended Brunner for the job, the senator said in his own news release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTerry has served New Mexicans for many years as the director of my state offices.\u00a0 I know he will do a terrific job continuing his public service as director of New Mexico\u2019s Rural Development Administration office,\u201d Bingaman said.<\/p>\n<p>Brunner said he is \u201chonored to have been appointed to this position by the president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to take on this new challenge and join the president\u2019s effort to rebuild and revitalize rural America,\u201d Brunner wrote in an e-mail. \u201c\u2026USDA rural development has incredible resources at its hands to work on housing, small business, energy, broadband and community development, and the USDA New Mexico rural development office will make use of them across New Mexico.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bingaman said Greg Bloom, who has been working in his Las Cruces office, has been promoted to state director.<\/p>\n<p>Also today, Obama appointed Salomon Ramirez to head the state\u2019s Farm Service Agency. Ramirez, a longtime USDA employee, is a graduate of New Mexico State University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSalomon Ramirez brings a wealth of experience to this important appointment,\u201d Bingaman said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The longtime state director for U.S. Sen.
