Secrecy is the soil in which corruption sprouts, and it\u2019s time we stood up and demanded full transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Welsh said it\u2019s \u201calso time for us to keep an extra close watch on government spending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom bailouts and the stimulus package to the debate over health care reform, I believe New Mexicans are anxious about what their government is up to and hungry for answers,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m here to make sure they get those answers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Welsh, 31, brings to FOG experience in both journalism and nonprofit advocacy work. She was formerly assistant news editor for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.riograndesun.com\/\">Rio Grande SUN<\/a> in Espa\u00f1ola and communications coordinator for <a href=\"http:\/\/kaboom.org\/\">KaBOOM!<\/a> in Washington, D.C. She also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be the beneficiary of Sarah\u2019s considerable talents,\u201d FOG\u2019s board president, Kip Purcell, said in the release. \u201cSarah brings great vigor and vision to the executive director\u2019s job.\u00a0 You\u2019d be hard-pressed to find a more ardent and thoughtful advocate of open government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Welsh replaces former director Leonard DeLayo, Jr., who was working part-time. The last full-time director &#8212; and the first FOG director &#8212; was Bob Johnson, who died in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>The hotline service, which will begin Friday, provides information and support to anyone seeking public records or access to public meetings.
