There\u2019s more news on the Bill Richardson presidential campaign trail today.<\/p>\n

His gubernatorial campaign has started a \u201cRichardson<\/st1:city> for Governor\u201d political committee in New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Bet you thought he was running for governor of New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, right?<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Right. That\u2019s because he is.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

So what\u2019s this committee doing in New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>?<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

According to the committee\u2019s treasurer, Richard Bouley of Concord<\/st1:city>, N.H.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, \u201cIt was set up if he wants to give to candidate committees here.\u201d That\u2019s according to Steve Terrell<\/a> of the Santa Fe New Mexican, who wrote today about the committee.<\/p>\n

Bouley said the committee has, thus far, given $2,500 to the New Hampshire Senate Democratic Caucus, Terrell reported.<\/p>\n

The blog New Mexico Matters has posted a copy of the document filed by committee in New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, which you can read by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the document, the committee formed on Aug. 7, 2006. Its chairperson is David Contarino, the chair of the governor\u2019s re-election campaign in New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n

Bouley told Terrell the committee isn\u2019t a precursor to a presidential committee, saying Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> \u201chas not announced he\u2019s running for president.\u201d<\/p>\n

This one\u2019s a bit to flagrant for my taste. Why would the Richardson<\/st1:city> for Governor campaign want to give money to anyone in New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>? Why would it want to give money to anyone except other Democrats in New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> who might, in turn, aid in his re-election campaign?<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

There\u2019s a reason current events and politics in New Hampshire<\/st1:state> aren\u2019t mentioned on Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s campaign Web site<\/a>. They have nothing to do with his re-election campaign.<\/p>\n

This is ridiculous at best and flagrant at worst. Shouldn\u2019t there be campaign laws against this sort of thing?<\/p>\n

What purpose would such a committee serve other than setting the stage for a presidential run? If it\u2019s not that, is he setting up such committees in all 50 states?
