{"id":528,"date":"2006-08-31T10:12:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-31T16:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/richardson-re-election-mailers-sound-like-hes-running-for-national-office\/"},"modified":"2006-08-31T10:12:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-31T16:12:00","slug":"richardson-re-election-mailers-sound-like-hes-running-for-national-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/richardson-re-election-mailers-sound-like-hes-running-for-national-office\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson re-election mailers sound like he&#8217;s running for national office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/RichardsonWatch.16.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/RichardsonWatch.15.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Bill Richardson is talking about national politics to people all across <st1:country-region st=\"on\">America<\/st1:country-region> under the guise of being re-elected <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> governor.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">His re-election campaign has mailed thousands of fundraising letters that, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/488566nm08-31-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>, \u201cat times read like they came from a national office seeker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He blasts the Bush administration and promotes his own work on national and international issues. Three times in the letter, according to the Journal, he tells potential donors, \u201cI promise you I can show <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:country-region st=\"on\">America<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> a better way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cMy name is Bill Richardson and I\u2019m a Democrat who\u2019s not afraid to talk about what we Democrats stand for and what we have to do to turn our country around,\u201d the letter states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s re-election campaign chair, Dave Contarino, told the Journal that, \u201cIf you\u2019re running in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, but you\u2019re talking to a national audience, you have to address national issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">How convenient.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m writing to you because George Bush and the GOP smear machine have targeted me for defeat and I urgently need your help to fight off their attacks,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> states in the letter, according to the Journal. \u201cThey know I can call them on their incompetence and show them how a real leader \u2013 a Democratic leader \u2013 can address our nation\u2019s problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s where it gets really interesting: Dendahl told the Journal that national Republican leaders are not targeting <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, but he wishes they would. He has only $130,000 in the bank and said no national Republican groups have committed money to his campaign. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has some $5 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI remain hopeful,\u201d Dendahl told the Journal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">While Dendahl works, thus far in vain, to make a dent in <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s fundraising and popularity, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> was in <st1:state st=\"on\">Arizona<\/st1:state> on Tuesday and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Ohio<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> on Wednesday to campaign for candidates and garner national attention, according to another article in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/apgov08-30-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Journal<\/a>. He\u2019s been all over the nation campaigning for other Democratic governors and gubernatorial candidates and members of Congress and congressional hopefuls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is demonstrating that he\u2019s so unconcerned about being re-elected here that he has time to win while also leading his colleagues across the nation to victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">If Democrats like <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> that much, he probably should be running for president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There\u2019s another question that should be asked: If Richardson is so influential, why aren\u2019t the national Republicans targeting him by giving Dendahl more money? <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Richardson is talking about national politics to people all across America under the guise of being re-elected New Mexico governor.
