Bill Richardson of the decision this afternoon, <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s office said in a news release. <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> is on his way to <st1:city st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:city>, <st1:state st=\"on\">D.C.<\/st1:state> this evening to plead to a similar declaration for <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Otero<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis means relief is on the way for residents who are struggling to take care of their families and businesses and get back on their feet,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cI am grateful the president and FEMA recognize the extensive damage caused by heavy rain and flooding in Hatch and other communities in <st1:place st=\"on\">Southern New Mexico<\/st1:place>. However, I want the people of <st1:city st=\"on\">Alamogordo<\/st1:city> and <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Otero<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> to know I\u2019ll keep fighting to get assistance for them as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The presidential disaster declaration will make all qualified homeowners, business owners, and renters in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> eligible for assistance from the federal government. FEMA may be able to provide temporary housing, repair, replacement and permanent housing construction to qualified households, and help with other needs, such as disaster-related medical or dental costs, clothing, household items, tools, cleanup items, damaged vehicles or other necessary expenses or serious needs as determined by FEMA. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Hatch, as many as 402 homes have been affected. The majority of the village was left underwater on Aug. 15 after a breached arroyo sent mud and excessive water through neighborhoods and the business district. Other communities, including <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Sunland<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Park<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> and Chaparral, have also been affected, and the rains have continued this week. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President George Bush has officially declared a federal disaster in Do\u00f1a Ana County due to recent flooding.
