{"id":509,"date":"2006-08-25T14:45:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-25T20:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/court-denies-vigil-change-of-venue-request\/"},"modified":"2006-08-25T14:45:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-25T20:45:00","slug":"court-denies-vigil-change-of-venue-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/court-denies-vigil-change-of-venue-request\/","title":{"rendered":"Court denies Vigil change of venue request"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Vigil%2C%20Robert.9.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Vigil%2C%20Robert.7.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>It looks like the retrial of former state Treasurer Robert Vigil will proceed as planned beginning Sept. 5.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The 10<sup>th<\/sup> U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Denver<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> denied Friday a motion by the defense to move the trial out of the state, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/apcircuit08-25-06.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt looks like the trial is going forward a week from Tuesday,\u201d Vigil\u2019s attorney, Sam Bregman, told the news service. \u201cWe are hopeful we can empanel a fair and impartial jury to ensure Robert Vigil gets a fair trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bregman had argued that pretrial publicity and campaign advertisements in the nasty race between U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson and Democratic challenger Patricia Madrid, which have focused on public corruption, tainted the entire state. The court disagreed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe respect the judge\u2019s decision. We respect the 10<sup>th<\/sup> Circuit Court\u2019s decision,\u201d Bregman told the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Vigil faces two dozen racketeering and extortion charges. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like the retrial of former state Treasurer Robert Vigil will proceed as planned beginning Sept. 5.
