Las Cruces will also hold\u00a0an election for mayor and the\u00a0presiding municipal judge.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s more information on each election:<\/p>\n<h3>Albuquerque<\/h3>\n<p>New Mexico&#8217;s largest city will hold an election\u00a0Oct. 6 to select\u00a0councilors in Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8. Voters must be registered by Sept. 8. Polls are open on Oct. 6 from 7 a.m. &#8211; 7 p.m.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If you can\u2019t make Election Day, you can come\u00a0out from Sept. 16-Oct. 2 for early voting. Though voting locations have yet to be determined you can keep up to\u00a0date with changes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/voting-elections\/election-information\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to vote in Albuquerque municipal elections you must bring a photo ID. A list of acceptable identification cards can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/voting-elections\/election-information\/voter-id\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also vote absentee. You can request a ballot\u00a0by going online or emailing, mailing or calling the city clerk. You can find out more information about\u00a0absentee voting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/voting-elections\/election-information\/absentee-voting\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Albuquerque is in the qualifying and petitioning period, so we can&#8217;t tell you who all the candidates will be. However, we can tell you about the current councilors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>District 2\u2019s councilor is Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/council\/find-your-councilor\/district-2\" target=\"_blank\">Isaac\u00a0Benton<\/a>, who was first elected to the city council in 2005. He will be running for re-election and\u00a0seeking public financing.<\/li>\n<li>District 4\u2019s councilor is Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/council\/find-your-councilor\/district-4\" target=\"_blank\">Brad Winter<\/a>, who as the longest serving city councilor was first elected to his position in 1999.<\/li>\n<li>District 6\u2019s councilor is Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/council\/find-your-councilor\/district-6\" target=\"_blank\">Rey Gardu\u00f1o,<\/a> who was first elected in 2007. He will not be running for re-election this fall.<\/li>\n<li>District 8\u2019s councilor is Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/council\/find-your-councilor\/district-8\" target=\"_blank\">Trudy Jones,<\/a> who was first elected to her position in 2007.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Las Cruces<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_58851\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 336px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-58851\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/unnamed-1-336x200.jpg\" alt=\"Election Day in Las Cruces in 2007.\" width=\"336\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/unnamed-1-336x200.jpg 336w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/unnamed-1-768x457.jpg 768w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/unnamed-1-771x459.jpg 771w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/unnamed-1.jpg 1086w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Heath Haussamen \/ NMPolitics.net<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Election Day in Las Cruces in 2007.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Las Cruces will hold a municipal election Nov. 3 for mayor, councilors in Districts 1, 2 and 4 and the presiding municipal judge. Information about voting on Election Day and early and absentee voting is not yet available. You will be able to check for updated information\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/departments\/city-clerks-office\/municipal-elections\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0as the election approaches.\u00a0Candidate packages will be available in July in the city clerk\u2019s office. You can register to vote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/elections\/registration\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since we are still in the qualifying and petitioning period,\u00a0there is not yet official\u00a0information on who is running. We can tell you about the current holders of these seats:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The mayor of Las Cruces is Mayor\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/en\/departments\/city-council\/mayor\" target=\"_blank\">Ken Miyagishima<\/a>, who was first elected in 2007.<\/li>\n<li>District 1\u2019s councilor is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/departments\/city-council\/district-1\" target=\"_blank\">Miguel Silva<\/a>,\u00a0who was also first elected in 2007.<\/li>\n<li>District 2\u2019s councilor is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/departments\/city-council\/district-2\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Smith<\/a>, who was elected in 2011. He was selected in 2013 by the other councilors to be mayor pro tem\u00a0and act\u00a0as the city&#8217;s leader\u00a0in the mayor&#8217;s absence.<\/li>\n<li>District 4\u2019s councilor is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/departments\/city-council\/district-4\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan Small<\/a>,\u00a0who was elected in 2007.<\/li>\n<li>The presiding municipal judge is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/en\/departments\/municipal-court\/judges\/judge-miller-byrnes-presiding-judge\" target=\"_blank\">Melissa Miller-Byrnes<\/a>, who has been elected four times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Other\u00a0upcoming elections<\/h3>\n<p>Santa Fe will be holding municipal elections in March 2016.
