{"id":507,"date":"2006-08-25T11:03:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-25T17:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/garza-lashes-out-at-judicial-standards-commission\/"},"modified":"2006-08-25T11:03:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-25T17:03:00","slug":"garza-lashes-out-at-judicial-standards-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/garza-lashes-out-at-judicial-standards-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Garza lashes out at Judicial Standards Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Garza%2C%20Carlos.25.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Garza%2C%20Carlos.24.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Suspended Do\u00f1a Ana County Magistrate Judge Carlos Garza lashed out Thursday at the board that is investigating allegations that he\u2019s using drugs.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Judicial Standards Commission filed a request Wednesday that the New Mexico Supreme Court immediately suspend Garza without pay, force him to undergo urine and hair tests for illegal drugs, and explain why he should not be held in contempt for refusing the commission\u2019s previous demand for the tests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In comments published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/news\/ci_4234678\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a> this morning, Garza said he\u2019s getting a raw deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis time I am fighting it,\u201d Garza told the newspaper. \u201cThis is a very serious matter. They did not afford me my rights. Lawyers and judges do not have rights with the Judicial Standards Commission. It needs to be revamped or abolished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Just what he\u2019ll do isn\u2019t clear. Garza is no longer being represented by <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> attorney Jose Arrieta, and hasn\u2019t informed the commission of a new attorney.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Even before Wednesday\u2019s filing, Garza was in a lot of trouble. He is already on suspension with pay until Nov. 3 while the commission conducts five separate investigations into other serious allegations. Details aren\u2019t known because that file has been sealed by the high court.
