\"\"<\/a>The Democrat\u2019s candidate for state auditor finds himself on the defensive after an Albuquerque<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> political blogger reported Tuesday that some in his party want him to abandon his candidacy. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Joe Monahan<\/a> wrote on his blog that Democrat Jeff Armijo is facing a situation \u201cthat could drive him from the ticket, or could create a major campaign issue that could cause his defeat as well as fan more ethics flames in the direction of other Dem hopefuls.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Monahan reported few specifics, but wrote that Armijo \u201chas been advised by Dem loyalists that an abandonment of his candidacy should be considered,\u201d and that the \u201cproblem \u2026 centers on a \u2018personal relationship\u2019 of Armijo<\/st1:place>\u2019s.\u201d The last day he could step down and be replaced on the ballot by the party is Sept. 12.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

In an e-mail sent this early morning, Armijo<\/st1:place> told me that he did not want to comment on \u201cthe rumors perpetuated by Mr. Monahan\u201d about an alleged problem, and asked for \u201csome degree of journalistic integrity.\u201d <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Armijo<\/st1:place> wrote that he will not abandon his candidacy. He said Monahan\u2019s report that some Democrats have asked him to do so is false.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cI did not receive any communication from anyone regarding this assertion,\u201d Armijo<\/st1:place> wrote. \u201cWould he be willing to provide call times and phone numbers from those folks? I will reconcile my T-Mobile account and my Vonage numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Armijo<\/st1:place> challenged Monahan \u201cto disclose the Democrats acting as the source\u201d for his blog posting, and said he believes \u201cthere is an ethical lapse in that posting.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cI would also note that Monahan mentions that I did not return a call he placed to me on Monday,\u201d Armijo<\/st1:place> wrote. \u201cOf course, most folks know that this is my day to catch up from six days of campaigning. Please note that he did contact my opponent at his ABQ West Side home because my opponent is not taking time to listen to the concerns of people and ask them for their vote.\u201d<\/p>\n
