{"id":4830,"date":"2009-08-20T15:05:00","date_gmt":"2009-08-20T21:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/08\/vigil-giron-other-defendants-co-hosted-event-for-guv\/"},"modified":"2009-12-10T08:21:21","modified_gmt":"2009-12-10T15:21:21","slug":"vigil-giron-other-defendants-co-hosted-event-for-guv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/08\/vigil-giron-other-defendants-co-hosted-event-for-guv\/","title":{"rendered":"Vigil-Giron, other defendants co-hosted event for guv"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/So27X2GLF1I\/AAAAAAAAMJU\/pXtDSt6meJg\/s1600-h\/Vigil-Giron,+Rebecca.jpg\" onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372155948855662418\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; width: 120px; float: right; height: 162px; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/So27X2GLF1I\/AAAAAAAAMJU\/pXtDSt6meJg\/s400\/Vigil-Giron,+Rebecca.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s an interesting little side note related to <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/08\/prosecutors-allege-plot-to-steal.html\">Wednesday\u2019s indictments<\/a> of former Secretary of State <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rebecca_Vigil-Giron\" target=\"_blank\">Rebecca Vigil-Giron<\/a> and others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Vigil-Giron and the others indicted &#8212; lobbyists <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sos.state.nm.us\/Lobby\/940531.HTM\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Kupfer<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sos.state.nm.us\/Lobby\/070154.HTM\" target=\"_blank\">Elizabeth Kupfer<\/a> and contractor Armando Gutierrez &#8212; co-hosted a fundraiser for Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson\u2019s<\/a> re-election campaign in 2006.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Three years ago, Democracy for New Mexico published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracyfornewmexico.com\/democracy_for_new_mexico\/2006\/09\/two_more_dem_ev.html\" target=\"_blank\">an announcement<\/a> about the Sept. 19, 2006 \u201cWine Tasting Reception and Fundraiser\u201d in honor of Richardson. The announcement states that the event was hosted by \u201cRebecca Vigil-Giron and Armando and Dora Gutierrez, Joe and Daisy Kupfer and Patricia L. Chavez and Ray and Deb Baray.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Daisy is Elizabeth Kupfer\u2019s nickname, and Joseph Kupfer is her husband. Ray Baray worked for Vigil-Giron in the secretary of state\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Vigil-Giron and the other defendants each face 50 counts including money laundering, fraud, soliciting or receiving kickbacks and tax evasion. They\u2019re accused of bilking taxpayers out of millions of dollars between 2004 and 2006 by falsifying invoices to the secretary of state\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The fundraiser could indicate a close relationship between the defendants.
