He said the meeting comes \u201cin response to public concerns as well as recent reports about the dangers of \u2018Texting while Driving.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Espa\u00f1ola already require those who talk on cell phones while driving to use hands-free sets. And earlier this year, the state Legislature considered a statewide ban on texting while driving. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/_session.aspx?chamber=H&amp;legtype=B&amp;legno=%20301&amp;year=09\" target=\"_blank\">The bill<\/a>, sponsored by Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HLUJT\" target=\"_blank\">Antonio Lujan<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, passed the House but died in the Senate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima says the city council will consider banning the use of cell phones without hands-free sets and sending text messages while driving.
