{"id":4797,"date":"2009-08-10T10:08:00","date_gmt":"2009-08-10T16:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/08\/colon-makes-his-resignation-official\/"},"modified":"2009-08-22T15:24:12","modified_gmt":"2009-08-22T21:24:12","slug":"colon-makes-his-resignation-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/08\/colon-makes-his-resignation-official\/","title":{"rendered":"Col\u00f3n makes his resignation official"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SoBG-CaYTcI\/AAAAAAAAMDc\/8hnidL6y8jw\/s1600-h\/Colon,+Brian.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 120px; height: 160px;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SoBG-CaYTcI\/AAAAAAAAMDc\/8hnidL6y8jw\/s200\/Colon,+Brian.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368368787438980546\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There was no news release, no public announcement, and little fanfare, but <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brian_Colon\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Col\u00f3n<\/a> resigned from his position as chairman of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmdemocrats.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Party of New Mexico<\/a> this weekend as expected, apparently with the intention of entering the lieutenant governor\u2019s race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Col\u00f3n made his resignation official in a Friday letter to the state party\u2019s vice chair, Annadelle Sanchez, which was posted at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracyfornewmexico.com\/democracy_for_new_mexico\/2009\/08\/brian-col%C3%B3n-resigns-as-chair-of-nm-dems-to-run-for-lt-governor.html#more\" target=\"_blank\">Democracy for New Mexico<\/a>. His resignation took effect Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am proud and humbled by all we have accomplished together. We had clear electoral success at all levels of government. We truly became a \u2018Blue State in \u201808\u2019 with victories up and down the ballot,\u201d Col\u00f3n wrote about his 2.5 years as party chairman. \u201cPresident Barack Obama carried New Mexico, Tom Udall is our new United States Senator and we have three Democratic Members of Congress. Importantly, we also picked up three seats in the State House and three seats in the State Senate along with terrific judges all over New Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Col\u00f3n made no mention in his letter of running for lieutenant governor, but sources have confirmed that he plans to do just that. He has confirmed that he\u2019s considering entering the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Col\u00f3n will be joining a crowded primary. Already in the race are Santa Fe County Sheriff <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solanoltgov.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Solano<\/a>, state Sens. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SLOPE\" target=\"_blank\">Linda Lopez<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/LCS\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SORTI\" target=\"_blank\">Gerald Ortiz y Pino<\/a> of Albuquerque and State Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HCAMP\" target=\"_blank\">Jose Campos<\/a> of Santa Rosa. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracyfornewmexico.com\/democracy_for_new_mexico\/2009\/07\/matthew-padilla-pondering-run-for-new-mexico-lt-governor.html\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew Padilla<\/a>, a law student and former U.S. Navy officer, says he plans to form an exploratory committee this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrcog-nm.gov\/content\/view\/233\/269\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lawrence Rael<\/a>, who heads the Mid-Region Council of Governments, is considering running.
