Because New Mexico can be so much more! Because it is time for New Mexico to lead the Nation &#8212; in energy, transmission, technology, agriculture, connectivity, education and prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cTo engage that potential, we must inject sunlight into the way New Mexico governs and does business,\u201d Arnold-Jones wrote. \u201cCorruption costs in wasted resources, increased cost of doing business, increased taxes, ineffective or reduced government services, and repeated loss of opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The field of actual and potential GOP gubernatorial candidates is crowded. Do\u00f1a Ana County District Attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.da.state.nm.us\/districts\/third\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Susana Martinez<\/a> has declared her candidacy. Former state GOP Chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/allenweh2010.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Allen Weh<\/a> has formed an exploratory committee. Former U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heather_Wilson\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> and public relations professional <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dwturner.com\/about\/?t=Douglas_W_Turner&amp;m=2\" target=\"_blank\">Doug Turner<\/a> say they are seriously considering running, and Turner has hired staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arnold-Jones said she\u2019s talking a \u201cvery practical\u201d view of the race, adding, \u201cyou run until you can\u2019t run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am running, but I am cognizant that there may come a point, if you can\u2019t raise money, there\u2019s no point in running. If you can\u2019t get traction in the polls, there\u2019s no point,\u201d Arnold-Jones said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The lawmaker announced <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/06\/arnold-jones-wades-into-gubernatorial.html\">in mid-June<\/a> that she was forming an exploratory committee, but her campaign\u2019s progress has been hampered by a necessary surgery to repair torn muscles in her leg. Arnold-Jones said her formal announcement is \u201cpending me getting on my feet.\u201d She added that she expects to make the announcement sometime in the second half of August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\">\u2018We can do this\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arnold-Jones considered running for Congress last year but ultimately <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/arnold-jones-will-seek-re-election-not.html\">opted to seek re-election<\/a> to her state House seat after she failed to raise as much money for a potential congressional run as she thought she needed to be successful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arnold-Jones\u2019 stature increased when she led the charge earlier this year to <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/04\/momentum-for-reform-was-too-great-to.html\">bring webcasting<\/a> to the state Legislature, which many said helped create a climate ripe for the approval of other ethics reforms. For her work on webcasting, the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/02\/looking-back-on-lady-sunlights.html\">Santa Fe Reporter<\/a> nicknamed Arnold-Jones \u201cLady Sunlight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arnold-Jones has also been instrumental in <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/03\/legislature-approves-housing-authority.html\">the successful push<\/a> for reform of the state\u2019s scandal-plagued housing authority system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In her Sunday letter, Arnold-Jones referenced her work on government transparency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWeb casting my legislative committees was a start, but it is not enough,\u201d she wrote. \u201cOpen government is a mind-set! We can do this AND we will make better decisions in full view of and with the input of all New Mexicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dianedenish.com\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Denish<\/a> is the only declared 2010 gubernatorial candidate, though Senate Majority Leader <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SSANC\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Sanchez<\/a> says he\u2019s formed an exploratory committee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a letter to supporters, Arnold-Jones talks about increasing transparency, says New Mexico \u2018can be so much more\u2019 State Rep.
