Bill Richardson is out of state doing the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/richardson-to-pressure-wal-mart-on-pay.html\" target=\"_blank\">anti-Wal-Mart<\/a> thing, there\u2019s a lot happening locally.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, serving as acting governor, declared a disaster today in Hatch and Socorro, which have been pummeled (and in the case of Hatch, devastated) by recent rains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/abqnews\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;task=view&#038;id=1344&#038;Itemid=2\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>, the declaration frees up $750,000 in flood-relief funds for the communities. The funds can only be used to repair public infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Denish will fly over both towns today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe increased rain this monsoon season has been both a blessing and curse for <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, helping dent our drought, but also endangering the lives and property of thousands of New Mexicans,\u201d Denish said in a new release, according to the Journal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Also, Democrats in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> are making last-minute pushes to convince the governor to pick their choice for the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/richardson-interviews-district-judge.html\" target=\"_blank\">new district judgeship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> gets to choose between Democrats Fernando Macias and Bernadette Sedillo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Apparently, some Sedillo supporters have a problem with Macias\u2019 wife Claudia more than with Fernando himself. Claudia Macias once ran the governor\u2019s office in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>, but left after clashing with some local powers-that-be that have the ear of the governor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Supporters of both candidates have been making phone calls, talking to the other district judges and doing what politicians do to try to get their way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Who will <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> pick? The jury\u2019s still out. And the governor is in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. Sources tell me that doesn\u2019t mean his office won\u2019t make an announcement while he\u2019s gone. It could come later today or tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Then again, it might not. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While Gov.
