Republican Doug Turner<\/a> is putting all the pieces in place for a 2010 gubernatorial run, though he isn\u2019t saying at this point that he\u2019s certain he\u2019s running.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Turner is \u201cleaning toward getting into the race,\u201d he said Tuesday in an interview, adding that he has \u201chired a few folks, brought on some external consultants\u201d and done significant polling. He said he has an \u201cinitial staff\u201d in place.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The CEO of the Albuquerque-based public relations firm DW Turner<\/a> said he has already spent \u201cconsiderable\u201d personal money preparing for a run.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re making sure we\u2019ve got the right team and the right resources and, when all that\u2019s in place, we\u2019ll announce,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Turner was state director for former Gov. Gary Johnson\u2019s<\/a> first campaign in 1994 and manager of his re-election campaign in 1998. Turner was also deputy political director for Steve Forbes\u2019<\/a> unsuccessful 2000 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

He has previously said<\/a> he won\u2019t form an exploratory committee — he will either run or not — and has indicated that he will make a final decision in mid to late August.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The only declared Republican gubernatorial candidate is Albuquerque financial adviser and Army National Guard brigadier general Greg Zanetti<\/a>, but Do\u00f1a Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez<\/a> plans to enter the race on Friday. Former state GOP Chairman Allen Weh<\/a> and state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones<\/a>, R-Albuquerque, have formed exploratory committees.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

And former U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson<\/a> has said she is seriously considering running.<\/p>\n

On the Democratic side, the only declared candidate is Lt. Gov. Diane Denish<\/a>. Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez<\/a> says he\u2019s formed an exploratory committee as he considers challenging Denish for the nomination, but he hasn\u2019t been very active in the race.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
