{"id":471,"date":"2006-08-16T11:13:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-16T17:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/goddard-strikes-back-at-whitleys-e-mail\/"},"modified":"2006-08-16T11:13:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-16T17:13:00","slug":"goddard-strikes-back-at-whitleys-e-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/08\/goddard-strikes-back-at-whitleys-e-mail\/","title":{"rendered":"Goddard strikes back at Whitley&#8217;s e-mail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Goddard%2C%20Sid.5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Goddard%2C%20Sid.1.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Any suggestion that local law enforcement agencies encourage investigations into Democrats and suppress investigations into Republicans is false, Do\u00f1a Ana County Republican Party Chair Sid Goddard said today.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Melinda Whitley, the county\u2019s Democratic Party chair, recently made such a suggestion in an e-mail to fellow party members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/1600\/Whitley%2C%20Melinda.2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/5892\/2386\/200\/Whitley%2C%20Melinda.2.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>\u201cAt this moment, Republicans control the district attorney\u2019s office and the sheriff\u2019s department, which means that they can reveal or suppress, investigate or not investigate, any type of incident they choose \u2013 which obviously is why we read these constant attacks against Democratic elected officials in our Republican-controlled newspapers,\u201d Whitley wrote in an e-mail encouraging Democrats to attend a meeting of the county\u2019s elections task force.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">You can read a prior posting that includes the full text of Whitley\u2019s e-mail by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/democratic-party-chair-others-need-to.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speaking on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swickard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Morning Show with Michael Swickard<\/a>, Goddard said, \u201cthere is no conspiracy whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThat is one of the most egregious and disingenuous comments I\u2019ve ever heard in my life,\u201d Goddard said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Goddard was on the program to speak about the elections task force, of which he and Whitley are both members. It held its final of four public hearings last night, and now begins deliberations and preparation of a report to the commission, which will be presented next month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Goddard said he has learned much during the public hearings, but was disappointed that there wasn\u2019t greater turnout.
