They were two of several stops he plans in cities across the nation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">House Republicans, seeking to stall meaningful immigration reform until after the November election, have been conducting hearings on immigration across the nation this summer. They conducted such a hearing earlier this month in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">De Icaza said he wanted to inform people about <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:country-region st=\"on\">Mexico<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>\u2019s stance on the immigration debate, but hinted at another purpose, according to an article in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/news\/ci_4181745\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe reason I\u2019ve been doing the big emphasis on this is because there are others who have been doing a big emphasis on security,\u201d the Sun-News quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">So what did he say about immigration?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Nothing that surprising. <st1:country-region st=\"on\">Mexico<\/st1:country-region> respects the sovereignty of the <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">United   States<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> to secure its borders. But, \u201cif you don\u2019t have a comprehensive view, and it\u2019s only one-sided, there can be unintended effects,\u201d according to the Sun-News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He asked for cooperation in solving the problem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Unlike the House hearing, Monday\u2019s meeting was attended by a host of local politicos that included legislators, city councilors and county commissioners. Only a couple of them attended the House hearing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Attendance was probably so great in part because an NMSU official called to personally invite them to Monday\u2019s meeting. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mexico\u2019s ambassador to the United States was in Las Cruces Monday to show House Republicans he can play the political game as well as anybody.
