{"id":4625,"date":"2009-06-04T16:49:00","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T22:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/06\/guess-who-the-nmfa-rents-its-office-space-from\/"},"modified":"2009-06-04T16:49:00","modified_gmt":"2009-06-04T22:49:00","slug":"guess-who-the-nmfa-rents-its-office-space-from","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/06\/guess-who-the-nmfa-rents-its-office-space-from\/","title":{"rendered":"Guess who the NMFA rents its office space from?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\">Sonny Otero, who gave Richardson\u2019s re-election campaign $50K in 2006 after his family made millions selling land to the state, also makes $26K a month from NMFA lease<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\" class=\"MsoNormal\">I wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/05\/feds-should-scrutinize-this-eyebrow.html\">a couple of weeks ago<\/a> about a land deal the feds should add to the list of things they\u2019re investigating as part of <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/grand-jury-probes-richardson-donors.html\">their probe<\/a> into allegations of pay to play in the Richardson administration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\" class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s a deal in which the state paid the family of Santa Fe contractor Sonny Otero millions for a parcel of land it apparently didn\u2019t need. Then Richardson got a $50,000 campaign contribution from Otero for his 2006 re-election campaign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/Local%20News\/Authority-rents-from-Richardson-backer\" target=\"_blank\">The Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a> is reporting on another deal Otero has with a state agency. He\u2019s currently making $26,000 a month as landlord for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmfa.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Mexico Finance Authority<\/a>, an agency that is tied up in the investigation into allegations that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdrfp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CDR Financial Products<\/a> received a state investment contract that paid almost $1.5 million in exchange for $110,000 in contributions to two Richardson political committees and his 2006 gubernatorial re-election campaign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\" class=\"MsoNormal\">From The New Mexican:<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSince March 2005, Sonny Otero and his wife, Lorraine Otero, have leased the three-story building at <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;source=s_q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=207+Shelby+St.,+santa+fe,+new+mexico&amp;sll=37.509726,-95.712891&amp;sspn=46.445737,58.886719&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;t=h&amp;z=16&amp;iwloc=A\" target=\"_blank\">207 Shelby St.<\/a>, between Alameda and Water streets, to NMFA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lease started out at $18,750 a month for about 12,500 square feet of office space. That figure included utilities and downtown parking spaces for the agency\u2019s 36 or so employees. A few months later, NMFA exercised its right of first refusal and leased an additional 2,500 square feet in the building, bringing the monthly rent up to $22,500. That figure also included utilities and parking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rent went up again last year. In May 2008, the monthly rent increased to $26,000.
