{"id":4622,"date":"2009-06-03T22:54:00","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T04:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/06\/state-investment-officer-fighting-with-irs-over-577k\/"},"modified":"2009-06-03T22:54:00","modified_gmt":"2009-06-04T04:54:00","slug":"state-investment-officer-fighting-with-irs-over-577k","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/06\/state-investment-officer-fighting-with-irs-over-577k\/","title":{"rendered":"State investment officer fighting with IRS over $577K"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SidUDhHXTVI\/AAAAAAAALts\/AA7JRHBwj44\/s1600-h\/Bland,+Gary.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 120px; height: 160px;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SidUDhHXTVI\/AAAAAAAALts\/AA7JRHBwj44\/s200\/Bland,+Gary.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343331902303980882\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Did you catch that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Internal Revenue Service<\/a> has filed a tax lien of more than $577,000 against State Investment Officer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sic.state.nm.us\/about_SIO.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Bland<\/a> and his wife for not paying income taxes?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bland disputes the IRS\u2019 claim that he has unpaid taxes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We\u2019re talking about the man who is responsible for some $11 billion in state investments for an agency &#8212; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sic.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">State Investment Council<\/a> &#8212; that finds itself tied up in the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/Investment%20scandal\">nationwide investment scandal<\/a> that has already led to criminal charges in New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And now we learn, thanks to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/upfront\/03223053333upfront06-03-09.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>, about Bland\u2019s personal battle with the IRS over hundreds of thousands of dollars. <span style=\"\"> <\/span>In addition, according to the Journal, \u201ca California court has entered a judgment of $42,594 against Bland in a lawsuit brought by the Bank of Stockton for unpaid debt. A lawyer for the bank said Bland\u2019s state wages have been garnisheed to satisfy the judgment, but Bland said that was untrue and that he has made a series of payments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s what Bland told the Journal, in a written statement, about the IRS lien and the court judgment on the unpaid bank debt:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe IRS lien you are inquiring about is an ongoing dispute between myself and the IRS regarding the taxability of the retirement package I was awarded for my decades of service at the Boeing Corporation. \u2026 The commercial loan issue with the Bank of Stockton involved a failed investment in a personal business venture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Hmm\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you catch that the Internal Revenue Service has filed a tax lien of more than $577,000 against State Investment Officer Gary Bland and his wife for not paying income taxes?
