Bush<\/a> told high school seniors in Artesia on Thursday that being out of office is \u201ca liberating feeling,\u201d according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roswell-record.com\/main.asp?FromHome=1&amp;TypeID=1&amp;ArticleID=42795&amp;SectionID=49&amp;SubSectionID=112\" target=\"_blank\">Roswell Daily Record<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He told them a story about walking his dog Barney in his new neighborhood in Texas. The dog stopped to do his business in a neighbor\u2019s yard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cAnd there I was, former president of the United States of America, with a plastic bag on my hand,\u201d Bush said. \u201cLife is returning back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bush was speaking at a reception for high school seniors who are winners of the 2009 Chase Foundation Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bush didn\u2019t delve much into politics during his speech, but, according to the Record, did tell the story of Staff Sgt. Christian Bagge, who lost both legs fighting in Iraq.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHe went into combat because his commander in chief sent him into combat, for a reason I still know is a noble and necessary reason,\u201d Bush told the high school seniors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">From the newspaper:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBush used the story to encourage the scholarship recipients. When he visited Bagge in the hospital, Bush told him that someday he would get out of his bed and run, and when he did, he should give the White House a call. Then, one day, an aide went into Bush\u2019s office and said that Bagge was waiting on the South Lawn and wanted to go running with the president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Bagge could do that, Bush said, \u2018You can go to college.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bush\u2019s central theme, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/222251397872newsstate05-22-09.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>, was \u201cto encourage the Artesia High School students to make the most of every opportunity they were given and then give back to their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cMy call to you is to give it your all,\u201d the Journal quoted Bush as saying.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President George W.
