Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmag.gov\/office\/Divisions\/EO\/kingbio.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Gary King<\/a> has joined a national task force that is investigating the third-party marketer scandal that is spreading across the nation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Attorneys general in more than 30 states have joined the task force, and King spokesman Phil Sisneros confirmed to The Santa Fe New Mexican\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/roundhouseroundup.blogspot.com\/2009\/05\/roundhouse-roundup-here-comes-santy.html\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Terrell<\/a> that King is one of them. However, Sisneros said he doesn\u2019t yet know what the level of participation will be from the New Mexico AG\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe question is how much this is affecting New Mexico,\u201d Sisneros was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The New York and New Mexico AG offices were in touch <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/05\/king-considering-joining-investment.html\">late last month<\/a> about the possibility of King joining the probe of the scandal that began in New York but has spread to several other states, most prominently New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">N.Y. Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Cuomo\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Cuomo\u2019s<\/a> office has charged several people with crimes related to the massive pay-to-play scandal. He says he is \u201cdisclosing a national network of actors who often acted in concert and did this all across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In New Mexico, the scandal has led to the firing of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aldusequity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aldus Equity<\/a>, which advised the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/04\/richardson-orders-termination-of-aldus_30.html\">State Investment Council<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/04\/educational-retirement-board-will-also.html\">Educational Retirement Board<\/a>, and the disclosure for the first time of many of the third-party marketers investment firms employed in their dealings in New Mexico. Aldus\u2019 founder is facing criminal charges in New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Third-party marketers are people such as lobbyists and public-relations firms that help investment firms win investment contracts. <span style=\"\"> <\/span>They\u2019re paid by the firms, not with public dollars, but they are often well-connected politicos and, in New York, are alleged to be the critical link in criminal pay-to-play dealings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>N.M.
