That&#8217;s about 10.5 percent of Las Cruces residents who were eligible to vote.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, the last time the offices that were up for grabs Tuesday were on the ballot, 4,925 people voted. That was 8.19 percent of people who were eligible to vote that year.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s\u00a0increased turnout gave a boost to progressive-backed candidates, who on Tuesday <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2017\/11\/progressive-backed-candidates-win-every-race-in-las-cruces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won every race<\/a> in Las Cruces. Progressives expanded their decade-long dominance of city government by ousting the only Republican city councilor.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nmpoliticalreport.com\/566753\/abq-voter-turnout-higher-than-recent-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">29 percent<\/a>\u00a0of registered voters cast ballots in Albuquerque, making\u00a0it the highest turnout\u00a0in that city since 2001.\u00a0Turnout\u00a0was driven in part by a multi-candidate mayoral contest and a controversial ballot question\u00a0that would have required employers to provide paid sick leave to workers.
