Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gary_E._Johnson\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Johnson<\/a> is considering running for president in 2012, according to a writer for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amconmag.com\/article\/2009\/apr\/20\/00035\/\" target=\"_blank\">The American Conservative<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In an article published Monday, Bill Kauffman starts with a conversation he had with Johnson at <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ron_Paul%27s_Campaign_for_Liberty\" target=\"_blank\">Ron Paul\u2019s Rally for the Republic<\/a> in Minneapolis last year, an event that coincided with the GOP nominating convention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">From Kauffman\u2019s article:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cAt breakfast the morn of the rally, I sat across the table from a friendly dude wearing a peace-sign T-shirt and looking like an affable old surfer. He introduced himself as Gary Johnson, the former two-term governor of New Mexico. Over the next day, I spent a fair amount of time chatting with Governor Johnson: mountain-climber, triathlete, vetoer of 750 bills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHe told me that he may take a shot at the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 as an antiwar, anti-Fed, pro-personal liberties, slash-government-spending candidate&#8211; in other words, a Ron Paul libertarian.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kauffman also writes that, as the current issue of The American Conservative went to press, \u201cGovernor Johnson told me that he was keeping his options open for 2012.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Before that, Johnson\u2019s last public comment about the 2012 presidential race came earlier this month, when he told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/05104655state04-05-09.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> that it \u201ccouldn\u2019t be more inappropriate to be talking about\u201d whether he will run in 2012 so soon after a new president took office. He said the Journal could ask him again in \u201cabout 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In November, Charles Frohman wrote on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/wall.php?id=38552147212&#038;page=1&#038;hash=b10f2a58d4e0e8418b47556664b9a8f8#\/group.php?gid=38552147212\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Johnson 2012 Facebook group<\/a> that he met with Johnson \u201cand got confirmation of his interest in running for the 2012 presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Facebook group currently has 956 members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former N.M.
